Middle and high school students in Anne Arundel County should put their artistic talents to work this weekend and enter the Library Happenings Cover Art Contest.
The Anne Arundel County Public Library has extended the deadline to April 7 for its 4th annual Library Happenings Cover Art Contest for teens and ‘tweens.
The winning entrant will receive a Coby 8-inch GMS Android 4.0 8GB Internet Tablet, and have his or her work published on 30,000 copies of this fall’s Library Happenings, which is distributed in print throughout the county and online at aacpl.net. The runner-up will receive a $100 gift card to the West Annapolis art supplies store Art Things. This is a great opportunity for budding artists to build their creative portfolios.
Submissions are due by 5 pm on Monday, April 7. Entrants are asked to use colored pencil, pastel, collage, paint or digital photography to capture this year’s theme: Back to the Books. Entries can be dropped off at any Anne Arundel County Public Library location, or emailed to aacplsocial@gmail.com.
All artwork must include color, must be original and should not contain text. Submissions must be portrait-oriented, measuring at least 8 ½ x 11 inches. Digital submissions must be high-resolution (300+ dpi); acceptable digital formats include jpeg, eps, psd, pdf and tif.
All entrants must have an Anne Arundel County Public Library card. Include your name, age, library card number, phone number and email address with your submission. One entry per person.
The Library reserves the right to disqualify any artwork deemed inappropriate or in violation of the rules. The decision of the Library regarding the winner is final. Submission implies the artist’s permission for AACPL to use the artwork for promotional or other purposes.
Entries will be shared on the Library’s Teen Facebook and Tumblr pages from April 13 to April 19. The winner will be announced on those sites and the Anne Arundel County Library’s website on Friday, April 18.
The public is invited to attend a reception to display the entries and recognize all the artists at the Crofton Community Library, 1681 Riedel Road, on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m.
