Grab your bikes and helmets for some trail riding fun. Getting the family outside for some exercise can become a great adventure while on a bike. However, finding great places to go can be a little tricky. Luckily, Maryland has some great trails to ride your bike. One such trail is the Patuxent Branch Trail.
Bike the Patuxent Branch Trail with your family
This moderate 4.6-mile trail is part of a larger 20-mile trail system that winds through Howard County. Your family will bike through a landscape that includes 10 different bridges such as the 1902 Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge, an old railroad bridge that crosses the Little Patuxent River. Although it is not a loop trail, each end of the trail has places worth riding to see.
Savage Mill
At one end, the trail can start in historic Savage Mill in Savage. Explore this historic textile mill that has been restored and features many unique shops. You can also find great food and drinks here in this beautiful building.
Lake Elkhorn
On the northern end of the trail is the beautiful Lake Elkhorn in Columbia. Here you’ll find picnic facilities, boating, a playground and more biking paths.
