St. Vincent Pallotti High School, “Laurel’s little gem,” is a college preparatory, coeducational Catholic high school preparing young men and women for the future one student at a time. For the past 95 years, Pallotti has served as the oldest, coeducational Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.
Pallotti has developed curricula that provides students effective habits for success in our 21st century society.
It all begins with Pallotti Transitions. This course is required for all incoming ninth graders. As tried and true educators know, ninth graders are a very heterogeneous group, with varying skills and skill gaps, as varied as their backgrounds. Pallotti Transitions teaches students successful study skills, inherently important organizational skills, and what we refer to as “the Pallotti way.” Transitioning from middle school to high school often serves as the primary obstacle for success in high school. Pallotti Transitions bridges those gaps and overcomes those obstacles so that every Panther has the opportunity to succeed.
Successful habits must also allow students to explore their academic interests. Our new STEAM Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) allows students to individualize their passions and explore new areas of study.
Our Arts Academy is entering its second year, offering courses in the Visual Arts, Performing Vocal Arts, Performing Instrumental Arts, Performing Theater Arts, and Dance Performance. Students in Pallotti’s Arts Academy receive individualized lessons to excel in their respective area of interest so that they may pursue this interest in higher education. These individualized lessons are taught by mentors who have traversed the world of arts, so that successful habits may be passed from generation to generation.
The ASAP Program (Advanced Science at Pallotti) allows our strong science students to take accelerated science and math classes. For qualified ninth graders, students can take ASAP Biology which puts these students on a track to garner AP Science and AP Math credits as early as their sophomore year. Students have the opportunity to take Computer Science, Robotics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science A, and AP Computer Science Principles. Successful habits must evolve to incorporate those skills which will be most in demand in this century. Our ASAP Program does exactly that! Panthers will be imbued with those successful habits and skills that will allow for successful transition to both higher education and the 21st century workforce.
Finally, successful habits at Pallotti are rooted in the traditions of St. Vincent Pallotti. The moral foundation for each Panther is re-enforced by the Pallottine Sisters, our sponsors. Ad Infinitam Dei Gloriam: for the infinite glory of God is our school motto which serves to remind all our students that all successful habits are rooted in our Creator. All students at Pallotti will take a rigorous four-year program in religious, Catholic studies, culminating in the senior year Ethics classes, challenging students to leave Pallotti with successful ethical habits.
