There are many great ways for families to spend the day on the water during the hot Maryland summer.
When you have streams, rivers, lakes and the Chesapeake Bay at your disposal, the opportunities are endless. Over the next two weeks we will feature four ways to spend the day on the water with the family — fishing, tubing, paddling and sailing.

Teach your kids the rewards of the rod and reel with an afternoon spent fishing the waters of the Chesapeake.
“Fishing is old-fashioned fun and kids can learn it from an early age,” says Captain Dale Weems, of Fish Solomons.
Here are some spots where your family can captain a vessel or take an excursion with the pros.
Tilghman Island Marina
Catch your share of rockfish and white perch in the waters near Tilghman Island. At the marina, families can rent 19- to 21-foot fishing boats and classic pontoon boats for a full or half day. Fishing gear is available at the marina at half-price for boat renters. Need a captain for your ship? Tilghman Marina also offers charter-fishing excursions.
