Known as either Friendship Park or the Thomas A. Dixon Observation Area in Glen Burnie, the airport playground offers a climbing structure and slides with the added bonus of planes rumbling directly overhead. It’s an exciting experience for kids and adults!
There is a parking lot just off of Dorsey Road and access to the BWI trail. The trail starts at the playground and goes through the woods, so there is plenty of shade on hot days. It is great for walking and bikes.
BWI Airport runways are just across Dorsey Road from the playground so the planes pass just overhead either right before landing or just after taking off. Kids will love getting an up-close view of the planes. They can be quite loud if they are taking off.
A day at Friendship Park watching the planes and having a picnic is a good way to spend a nice summer day with the kids.
