When tubing, boating or swimming with the kids this summer, keep safety in mind.
After more than 13 drownings in Maryland waterways this year, Governor Martin O’Malley and the Maryland Natural Resources Police are asking everyone to use extra caution when out on the water.

- Only swim in guarded areas.
- Never swim alone.
- Heed warning signs and flags.
- Pay special attention to children and people who cannot swim.
- Have a flotation rescue device handy.
- Always wear a life jacket when boating and stay alert to weather conditions.
- Carry a cell phone or mobile radio.
- Tell someone your plans, in detail, before heading out.
