If it gets too cold you can duck into a barn and see some of the animals that are cared for by 4-H members and volunteers. The park is a farm that is home to chickens, turkeys, ducks, cows, pigs, goats, and sheep. If you are lucky you will meet some of the people who care for the animals and your kids might have the chance to brush a critter or hold a baby.
Buildings to Explore
The Visitors Center Exhibit Hall displays a variety of farming artifacts, from the smallest implements to an enormous tobacco press. It is open during normal business hours. The Ice House and Outhouse are located near the Farm House. You can open the doors to take a peek inside.
Tobacco was a primary cash crop in Maryland until 1999 when the state offered tobacco farmers a buyout with money from the national tobacco settlement with cigarette manufacturers. The Tobacco Barn Museum contains many large pieces of farm equipment, including a tobacco planter, grain cleaner, and an antique chicken brooder. Smaller pieces of equipment are shown in display cabinets. The barn is open daily.
Perfect for Picnics
If it’s warm enough, pack a lunch and enjoy a meal on one of the picnic tables located throughout the park. But mostly your kids can get outside and run and jump, and get their wiggles out during the coldest month of the year.
Kinder Farm has a daily entry fee of $6 or you purchase an annual entry permit for $30 that can be used at all the Anne Arundel County parks.
