Think your infant or toddler is too little for a museum? Think again. There are many museums in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area that have special exhibits and rooms designed to educate and entertain babies and toddlers.
The following museums have fun and interesting exhibits and events for children of all ages, as well as adults, but these museums will be especially fun and educational for your baby or toddler.

National Building Museum

Work Play Build is a permanent exhibit at the National Building Museum and allows kids with a hands-on experience. Appropriate for all ages, little ones can enjoy playing with supersized foam blocks, small scale building blocks or try the virtual block-play experience.

Maryland Science Center

The Maryland Science Center features The Kids Room, a special room for 0- to 8-year-olds, where kids can send boats down the river channel in water play, operate the fish cam in the submarine, dress up like a turtle, and send messages through a pneumatic tube on the ceiling. There is also a room for kids under 2 called Room to Grow where the littlest visitors can crawl around squishy waterbeds and play with big soft blocks.

Port Discovery Children’s Museum
The Port Discovery Children’s Museum has three floors of hands-on play exhibits for your kids. Look for these play areas great for babies and toddlers: Chessie’s Grotto, The Oasis, Tot Trails and Tiny’s Diner. The museum also offers fun programs and events for little ones.

B&O Railroad Museum
The B&O Railroad museum holds Toddler Time every other Thursday of each month January through October. Children can listen to a classic railroad story, create a craft, and take a kiddie train ride through the fictional town of Choo Choo Blueville. Toddler Time is recommended for ages 2 through 5.

Chesapeake Children’s Museum

The Chesapeake Children’s Museum has designed their museum to be entirely baby and toddler friendly. Usually, infant and toddler activities occur at the same time as activities for older children so that all family members are entertained. The theatre room has costumes in all sizes, and they offer events monthly for the whole family.
