Kabuki Syndrome
“Kabuki syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that can affect many parts of the body,” said Dr. Jacqueline Harris, Lyla’s pediatric neurologist at Kennedy Krieger Institute. “That can include growth, the heart, feeding and the immune system, but it primarily affects the brain, causing people with Kabuki syndrome to have more difficulty with moving, speaking and especially learning.
“Despite the challenges they face, individuals with Kabuki syndrome are incredibly loving and hard-working and they bring immense joy to all those around them. I am so lucky to get to work with these individuals, both in my clinical practice and in my research.”
