Kwanzaa Celebration
December 10
Join the museum for their 2022 Kwanzaa celebration! This year’s festivities will focus on the creativity (Kuumba) of the people of the African Diaspora. They will highlight the museum’s current exhibit, The Radical Voice of Blackness Speaks of Resistance and Joy, while presenting live performances, Black-owned businesses, and delicious food from across the state of Maryland.

The Spirit of Kwanzaa 2022
December 16 & 17
The Spirit of Kwanzaa is a winter holiday celebration that draws on the agricultural ceremonies of Africa. The Dance Institute of Washington has adapted the principles of Kwanzaa to portray the struggles and creativity within the Black experience. The production has been known to celebrate the holiday’s principles with dance, music, and spoken word performances.

Sankofa Pre-Kwanzaa Celebration
December 18
Join members of the Sankofa Family for a special Kwanza Celebration within the exhibition. The interactive Sankofa exhibition features a look back at the work of Sankofa Dance Theater, utilizing costumes, archival materials, historical footage, and built environments designed to transport visitors into the past, and into the future.

Umoja! Celebrating Kwanzaa in the Spirit of Family, Community and Solidarity

Come celebrate a festive night and reflect on the values and importance of Kwanzaa. This event is FREE and open to the community, hosted by the Howard County Center of African American Culture.
