Help spruce up Annapolis and work with others who enjoy gardening during the city’s annual spring GreenScape event, planned this year for Saturday, April 25, 2015. An organizational meeting will be March 4, at 6 p.m., at the “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center, 273 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis.
GreenScape is a partnership effort during which community volunteers and the city of Annapolis work together to plant and maintain native gardens in public areas throughout Annapolis. Volunteers clean up and plant flower and vegetable gardens in public spaces throughout the city while the city provides plant materials, mulch, trash bags and gloves. Community members head up the projects, submit a plant order and recruit volunteers.
Plant orders are due Wednesday, March 4, and can be turned in at the organizational meeting. Order forms are available in advance from the City of Annapolis website.
Interested volunteers select a neighborhood or community project site. Projects can include picking a new garden area or sprucing up an old one as well as picking up litter or planting trees. The city can also recommend areas if you’d like to help but don’t have a specific place in mind. Community members recruit volunteers to help with plant pick-up, planting and year-round watering and weeding.
If you need help designing an area, landscape architects, designers and master gardeners will donate time to help design the area and select appropriate plants.
Ordered plants will be ready to be picked up April 24, 1-4 p.m., at Truxtun Park Pool (Pumphouse Road, Annapolis).
Planting order forms are due March 4 and can be emailed to Marisa Wittlinger at mdwittlinger@annapolis.gov. Complete the form and e-mail it to Marisa Wittlinger at mdwittlinger@annapolis.gov.
