The National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, D.C., the nation’s only museum dedicated to telling the story of American law enforcement, provides visitors with a “walk in the shoes of an officer” experience.
Over a decade of planning and persistence in the making, the National Law Enforcement Museum first opened its doors to the public on October 13, 2018. Finally, citizens and law enforcement professionals from diverse perspectives and backgrounds had a place to share in the vibrant story of American law enforcement, serving as a platform for constructive dialogue to help strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The National Law Enforcement Museum’s exhibits let visitors explore many facets of law enforcement, from historical events to modern techniques to cutting-edge technology. Visitors can view a wide range of artifacts, from photographs, letters, and handwritten blotters to uniforms, handcuffs, and radios; a collection of more than 25,000 objects, spanning more than 300 years of American law enforcement history – past, present, and future – and engages visitors of all ages in memorable and immersive exhibits.
As the only Museum with a dedicated, permanent home in the United States, the Museum’s location at Judiciary Square in our nation’s capital provides a place for the entire family to enjoy, offering a variety of educational experiences that involve hands-on activities, enriching experiences and insightful programs that expand the relationship shared by law enforcement and the community as a whole.
