Swimming is the natural answer to beating the heat in the summer and a favorite of most kids. From beaches to water parks, there are plenty of places to dampen the heat this summer. Here are just a few possibilities:
Chesapeake Beach Water Park, Chesapeake Beach
Kids will love slipping down the eight water slides, splashing in the fountains and waterfalls, and floating down the lazy river. Beach parties, night slides and character days make it even more fun.

Betterton Beach, Betterton
This waterfront park on the Chesapeake Bay offers plenty of beach area for playing in the sand or splashing in the water. Bathhouses are available as well as benches and picnic pavilions. Stroll on the boardwalk or check out the fishing jetty and dock. There is no lifeguard on duty.

Fort Smallwood Park, Pasadena
For the first time, Fort Smallwood Park is allowing swimming during park hours, 5:30 a.m. to dusk. The park is at the tip of a peninsula in northeastern Anne Arundel County where the Patapsco River and Rock Creek meet the Chesapeake Bay. There is also a fishing pier, children’s playground and the first county-owned public boat ramp.
Cost: $6 per vehicle.
